Day 8 - Magic Happens When the Song Starts to Play
RM from BTS once said that music is our language, and I couldn’t agree more.
There are 8 billion people in the world, born every day in different places, different cultures, and raised by different languages. Most of the time, they talk with their mother language. But regardless of what language do they speak, when “twinkle-twinkle litter star” starts playing, most of the kids could sing along. It’s the same when we grow older. Not many people are privileged with an education that help them to master English (I’d say English here because it’s considered as an International language), but when classic songs start to play? For example, the legendary “We Are the Champions” by Queen, people would sing along even though they can’t have a conversation with one another because of the language barrier. In conclusion, music unites us all.
Listening to other language’s songs is a great start to learn or continue practicing a language. For an instance, K-pop is very popular nowadays. Not a lot of K-pop fans can talk Korean, but when their fav band/artists start singing, they could enjoy the moment with other Koreans. I personally think it’s a beautiful moment to watch. To see all the barriers vanished when it comes to music.
Music is just like a photograph. It captures the moment in a way we couldn’t even imagine. Music could bring you back to a memory. All of a sudden, someone from the past just popped up into your head, and you could remember the feeling when you’re around them just because they listened to a piece of certain music. It could help you recall the good memories, or remember the ins and outs of a specific moment.
Bob Marley said one thing about music when it hits you, you feel no pain. It’s a wonderful feeling when you listen to good music for the first time and your mood suddenly boosted up. When the lyrics hit you, and you just sit there feeling relieved, or sadder. But in a way, music helps us to communicate. It’s normal when we can’t even tell the world what’s in our mind right now, but when you find good music that fits your situation, you’ll feel like finally, someone out there understands you. Someone out there going through the same problem. Someone out there cherishes you. You’re not alone.
Then, of course, the other magic of music; to lift your mood, to brighten your day, to make you feel loved, and to share with your loved ones. I admire musicians who use music not just to express themselves, but also to use it as a medium to connect with people. Either way, there's no right or wrong in art. But I bet we're all agree that we're blessed, thanks to music.
